mozilla thunderbird not responding

I'm using the latest version of Mozilla Thunderbird which is version 31.0

Each time i try to send and receive email, it show Mozilla Thunderbird (Not Responding).

Not forgot to mention that i'm using McAfee Internet Security as antivirus. After doing some debugging, i've found out that disable Real Time Scanning can solve my problem. The issue is this might open to virus or spyware if i disable McAfee real time scanning. I go to McAfee FAQ and found that there is workaround stated in the FAQ.

McAfee recommend us to Disable Email Attachment Scan, steps as below

1.  Double-click the M icon in your taskbar.
2.  Open the Virus and Spyware Protection drawer.
3.  Select Real-Time Scanning.
4.  Open the Settings drawer.
5.  Remove the check from the box beside Scan these attachments and locations: Email attachments.

After disable the email attachment scanning, my mailbox work like normal.

Problem solved but i have to be extremely careful when open the email attachment. McAfee suggest that we manually scan the attachment before open it.

An error occurred with the POP3 mail server. Mail server mail.xxxx.com responded - Thunderbird 10

My email client Thunderbird 10 working 100% good before today but this morning when i try to retrieve emal from my mail server, i receive error message
"An error occurred with the POP3 mail server. Mail server mail.xxxx.com responded"





I'm very sure that my mail server working fine because i can download my email using my Sumsung Galaxy SII. There must be something wrong with my laptop.

Finally, i found out that the root cause come from the antivirus that i'm using. I'm using avast! antivirus free edition. There is a feature call Mail Shield which will scan inbound and outbound email. Once i disable this feature, it's working back to normal.

Hit error

I can click on "Stop script" or "Continue" button. I click on continue and it's working fine. This issue most probably caused by the work load for the script like loading folder and etc. It's fine if it's not consistently happen.
